LASIK is a laser procedure that reshapes the clear front surface of your eye, the cornea, so light focuses correctly and you can see clearly without glasses or contacts.

It treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. A femtosecond laser creates a thin, protective flap in the cornea, then an excimer laser reshapes the tissue underneath to your exact prescription. At Filutowski, the VisuMax 500 creates the flap and the MEL 90 reshapes the cornea. Our surgeons chose these platforms as the best tool for each step. The flap is set back in place and heals right away, with no blade ever touching the eye. That is what "bladeless, all-laser" means.

Because the correction is made in the cornea itself, the result is permanent. Most people achieve excellent vision, and the majority no longer need glasses for everyday tasks. Our doctors confirm what is realistic for your eyes during the consultation.

Watch: how LASIK works, in 90 seconds

Most healthy adults with a stable prescription are good candidates. A consultation is the only way to know for certain.

You are more likely to be a good LASIK candidate if you:

  • Are 18 or older, with a prescription that has been stable for about a year
  • Have corneas thick enough to treat safely
  • Have generally healthy eyes, with no active disease or infection
  • Are in good general health, and not pregnant or nursing
  • Want to depend less on glasses and contacts
  • Have realistic expectations about the outcome

If LASIK is not the right fit, it is rarely the end of the conversation. Thinner corneas, higher prescriptions, or age-related changes often point to another procedure that fits better. The candidacy check takes 60 seconds and is reviewed by our surgical team.

Take the 60-Second Candidacy Check

From consult to clear vision.

Three simple stages. Most of your time is spent in the consultation, not the procedure.
STEP 01

Consultation & mapping

A detailed exam measures your prescription, maps your corneas, and confirms whether LASIK is right for you. This is where your questions get answered and your plan is set. Most patients are scheduled for surgery about two to three weeks out.

STEP 02

The procedure

You are awake, comfortable, and numbed with drops while the laser gently reshapes each cornea. You feel no pain.

STEP 03

Recovery

We perform laser vision correction on Fridays and see you for your first post-op the following Monday or Tuesday. Vision is often clearer within hours, and most patients are back to work quickly. A final check comes one to three months later, and a full year of follow-up is included in your price.

How LASIK works in three steps: a femtosecond laser creates a thin corneal flap, an excimer laser reshapes the cornea to your prescription, then the flap is repositioned to heal.
The technology

Two lasers, one precise result

Your LASIK uses the VisuMax 500 to create the flap and the MEL 90 to reshape the cornea. Two dedicated systems, each doing the step it does best, tuned to the exact map of your eyes.

LASIK is $2,595 per eye, all-inclusive. That covers your exam, the procedure, and a year of follow-up care.

Elective laser vision correction is generally not covered by insurance, so we keep the price simple and transparent instead. Qualified patients can spread it over 24 months at 0% interest through CareCredit, and you can use HSA or FSA funds toward the cost.

Many patients find that LASIK costs less over time than years of glasses, contacts, lens solution, and replacements.

Questions, answered.

The answers patients ask for most often before booking a consultation.
Q.01

How much does LASIK cost?

LASIK at Filutowski Eye Institute is $2,595 per eye, all-inclusive. The price covers your pre-operative exam, the procedure for both eyes, and one full year of post-op care. Qualified patients can finance it at 0% for 24 months through CareCredit.

Q.02

Does LASIK hurt?

No. Numbing drops are used, so the procedure is not painful. You may feel light pressure for a few seconds. Some patients notice mild dryness or scratchiness for a day or two afterward.

Q.03

How long until I can see clearly?

Many patients notice clearer vision within a few hours. Most return to work the next day, and vision keeps sharpening over the following weeks. Most patients achieve excellent vision within a few months.

Q.04

How do I know if I am a candidate?

Good candidates are usually 18 or older with a stable prescription, healthy eyes, and adequate corneal thickness. The 60-second online candidacy check is a fast first step, followed by a full consultation.

Q.05

Is LASIK permanent?

LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea, so the correction itself does not wear off. Your eyes still age, though, so reading vision (presbyopia) and cataracts can develop later, the same as they would for anyone.

Q.06

What if I am not a candidate for LASIK?

You have options. SMILE, PRK, EVO ICL, and Refractive Lens Exchange each suit different eyes. Our doctors recommend the procedure that fits your corneas and prescription.
